Character

Who dances it: Everyone

A custom and dance of Nestani in Arcadia on St George's Day, listed in Greece's National Inventory of Intangible Cultural Heritage. At dawn the participants climb the rock of Goulas in local dress, carrying crooks decorated with flowers and wild celery, dance the first round "on the threshing floor of Goulas" and then walk down singing to the village square. The songs are sung antiphonally and danced to voice alone, without instruments, in syrtos and kalamatianos rhythm.
