The Greek communities of present-day southern Albania, such as those of Dropoli, Pogoni, Rizes and Himara, share the music and dance tradition of Epirus. Until the late 1970s they danced mostly to singing, without instruments; later the clarinet, violin, laouto, frame drum and accordion came in. The pogonisios, sta tria, elenaki, konstantas, kleftes Deropolis and katiouska are the core of every feast, while polyphonic singing over a drone is shared by many communities on both sides of the border.
