Character

Who dances it: Everyone

A dance of the Zagori villages in a five-beat rhythm (5/4, quick-quick-quick-slow) and one of the heaviest in Epirus. The step is low and steady, flat-footed, with pauses and high knee lifts, while the leader improvises over the clarinet melody. Variants are danced in Konitsa, Pogoni and Northern Epirus, where it is also known as 'Konstantas' after the song that goes with it.
