Character

Who dances it: Everyone

A dance of central Crete, especially Amari and Rethymno, widely danced until shortly after World War II. It has ten steps; once mixed, it is now danced mainly by women, who sing mantinades. The name "provatinistikos" is explained by the dancers stamping their feet, as sheep do when agitated.
