Character
Who dances it: Everyone
Kleftikos is another name for the tsamikos, especially its slow, heavy form as danced in Roumeli, where it is regarded as the standard version of the dance. The name ties it to the klefts and the War of Independence of 1821, and it is often danced to kleftic songs about the deeds and deaths of the klefts and armatoloi. The leader turns, leaps and slaps his boots, while the rest keep strictly to the step.
