Character

Who dances it: Everyone

Named after Ikonio (Konya), it is based on the Karamanlidika song of the same name. Dancers hold four wooden spoons, two in each hand, and clack them like castanets, hence its other name, 'the spoon dance'. It has six steps over two bars and is accompanied by frame drum, violin and oud. It was danced by Cappadocian Greeks, Karamanlides and other Anatolian Greeks, and their associations in Greece keep it today.
