Character

Who dances it: Everyone

A teasing carnival dance from the mountain villages of northern Corfu. It is named after Korakiana, while in Sokraki it was called 'Stavrotos' (crossed), from its typical crossing of the feet. It has two parts, slow and fast: in the first, dancers hold hands with bent elbows; in the second, with arms down. Its song has largely fallen out of use, and today it is mostly danced to the tune alone, in association performances.
