Character

Who dances it: Everyone

A cheerful, non-leaping dance with eight steps, danced in various parts of Crete, mainly the east. Its steps recall Pontic dances (omal, tik). One account says it was born from contact between Cretan volunteers and Pontic Greeks in World War I; another that Laz settlers brought it to Crete in the 19th century.
