Character
Who dances it: Everyone
A fast, lively leaping dance from the Malevizi district west of Heraklion, and one of the four pan-Cretan dances. In Heraklion (old Kastro) it was called "Kastrinos pidichtos", and in Chania "Kastrini sousta". The leader improvises with crouches, slaps on the legs (talimia), leaps and turns in the air. In 2023 it was added to Greece's National Inventory of Intangible Cultural Heritage.
