Character

Who dances it: Everyone

A syrtos from Samos named after its song, which opens with a couplet about the water of Platanos and the wine of Kolona. Researchers separate the common syrtos in 2/4, danced to the song, from the older "plataniotikos", a distinct dance with a complex rhythm recorded in New York around 1919 and revived in recent decades. Both the village of Platanos and Chora claim it.
