Character
Who dances it: Everyone
The sousta is the most widespread dance of Rhodes: lively and bouncy, danced in an open circle with arms crossed in front. Its basic pattern spans three bars of 2/4, with steps to the side and a small step forward, and dancers keep a steady light spring in the knees, which is said to be where the name ("spring") comes from. It is danced at weddings and festivals to violin and laouto.
