Character

Who dances it: Everyone

A cheerful, simple dance from Trapezounta, Kerasounta (Giresun) and Matsouka, one of the few Pontic dances that moves to the left. The movements recall a turtledove hiding in the bushes, and at the end the dancers raise their arms as if it takes flight. It is played in 2/4, or faster in 5/8 like the tik. Traditionally a women's dance, it is now danced by men too.
