Character

Who dances it: Everyone

The signature dance of Kythira (Tsirigo), danced only on the island by men and women in an open circle, holding each other's shoulders. Most sources give it in 2/4. The same or a related form is recorded as 'Bourdaris' or 'Diplos'; some explain 'Bourdaris' from the men's breeches, others from a verb of Venetian origin. Kythira belongs administratively to Attica today, but historically it was one of the Ionian Islands.
