1 Chemise Embroidered, with tassels at the hem and the sleeve ends. 2 Saya With a bodice and a very full skirt, pleated all round. 3 Yileki A short corded vest, embroidered in the terzides' technique. The Lyceum Club of Greek Women based its 2024 lucky charm on one such vest from Megala Kalyvia. 4 Kavadi sleeves Where no kavadi is worn, its embroidered sleeves are sewn to a small bodice under the saya. On great occasions separate embroidered cuffs are added. 5 Apron Trapezoid, divided into a centre panel and two sides. The newlywed's everyday winter one is red woollen cloth edged in green velvet, with cross-stitch at the base. 6 Belt A metal belt with a large buckle. 7 Kothros and kerchief A thick goat-hair braid that replaced the old cap, with the kerchief wrapped over it. This is why the headdress looks bulky in old photographs.
Costume Women’s
Occasion Festive The Karagouna costume of Megala Kalyvia and Agia Kyriaki, in the plain of Trikala. Here the saya has a bodice and a very full skirt falling in pleats all round. Only Megala Kalyvia has kept the kothros, the goat-hair braid under the kerchief.
