Cyclades › Sifnos

A rich women’s costume of Sifnos from the late 18th century, kept at the Peloponnesian Folklore Foundation. Over a fine white chemise, a petticoat and a kanaloti skirt go a sleeveless tsipfi and a long doulamas of European brocade trimmed with fur all round. On the head the pina, a cap named after the pinna shell, is covered with a silk kerchief.
