1 Chemise Long, open at the front, with a wide collar. The collar, cuffs and hem carry only homemade silk lace. 2 Sigouni A woollen garment in two versions: the good one, of fine wool with dark blue or black bands, buttons and silk tassels at the back, and the everyday one, of homespun wool, unadorned. 3 Chest brooches Two or three brooches close the sigouni at the chest, the smallest at the top. 4 Dulamas A jacket with narrow sleeves, worn over everything; flowered, striped or plain. 5 Apron The festive one is fine white wool in two widths, with a white silk edging, and is stored folded lengthwise. The everyday one is woven in coloured stripes. 6 Sash A wide sash over three metres long, wound three times round the waist. A long narrow ribbon over it holds the apron, and on feast days a large buckle is added. 7 Head scarf A woven silk scarf with red stripes at the ends, wound tightly four times round the braided hair. 8 Stockings and tsarouchia Black footless stockings under white knitted ones with patterns; tsarouchia, with pompoms for young women.
Costume Women’s
Occasion Festive The costume of Pogoni, an area divided today between Greece and Albania, with differences from village to village. Its main pieces are the long chemise, the woollen sigouni, the dulamas with narrow sleeves and the all-white festive apron. It was once more elaborate; today only a bride wears the rich version, with a crown borrowed from the parish.
