1 Chemise Linen or cotton. It once showed at the chest opening and cuffs; later it became an undergarment. 2 Foustani The old one was long like a kaftan, open at the chest, in striped or damask cloth. The newer one is a dress closed up to the neck, in rich cloth of dark shades. 3 Dickey The chest opening was sometimes covered by a dickey of a contrasting colour. 4 Flokata A heavy black woollen garment that barely shows from the front. The best were made of cloth from Bitola. Its ornament is always red, and in Zagori it covers the whole garment. 5 Apron Usually black, embroidered with flowers. 6 Belt Often metal, with large buckles. 7 Kerchief A black kerchief tied behind the head.
Costume Women’s
Occasion Festive The women's costume of Zagori is of the town type, Ottoman in style at first and later Western. Over a long dress of rich cloth go the black embroidered apron, the metal belt and the heavy black flokata, covered in red cording. In the Vlach villages of the east the flokata is much plainer.
