The bridal and festive costume of Astypalaia is called chrysomantilo, after its gold-embroidered frontlet set with pearls, or skolopentrati, after its chemise. A bride wore it, then a newlywed on feast days. The dress, the zatouni, is flowered silk or satin, and the head is dressed with a pearl cap and two bolies. One such costume from 1870 passed down four generations of the Palatianos family.
