Costume Women’s
Occasion Festive The sakkofoustano is the newer type of dress in Olympos on Karpathos, worn by girls from about ten. It is made of the sakkos, a jacket with sleeves, and a pleated satin skirt, with a pleated apron covered in coloured ribbons, braid and lace. At fifteen they put the kavai on over it, except the kanakara, the eldest daughter, who no longer wore the sakkos.
