Costume Men’s
Occasion Festive The costume with the foustanella was first worn by the armatoloi, the klephts and the fighters of 1821. Around the middle of the 19th century King Otto made it a court dress, and from there it became the festive dress of farmers and shepherds across the country. In the Peloponnese it went with the fermeli, a sleeved felt jacket richly worked with braid.
