In Pyrgi on Chios men wore the “podies” or “rasozipouna” until the early 20th century, while the other villages of the island wore the island costume with vraka. It is white, of cotton woven by the women themselves: a long shirt, a crossed zipouni, narrow sourelo trousers and a dark blue sash. It may echo the medieval dress of farmers on some Aegean islands.
