The zipka takes its name from its trousers, wide at the top and tight from the thigh to the ankle. It came to Pontus from the Caucasus shortly before 1900 and was worn mostly by young men. It is usually black or dark blue, with a silk sash, a leather belt and a hood tied round the head.
