The women’s costume of Pontus is called “ta zipounas”, after the zipouna, a long three-panel dress buttoned at the front and slit at the sides. Under it go wide shalvar trousers, and over it a sash, an apron and a short jacket. The everyday one was cotton or wool, the festive one silk, velvet or taffeta, and young women wore the tapla cap with coins. With small differences it was worn across almost all of Pontus.
