In Central Greece, as in the Peloponnese, the foustanella was the festive dress of farmers and shepherds from the middle of the 19th century. The Peloponnesian Folklore Foundation notes a costume from Nafpaktos as the main model for the evzone uniform. With the foustanella went the waistcoats and the sleeved fermeli.
